Q&A WITH GERARDO
What is something no one would believe is true about you?
Something no one would believe is true about me is that I have a degree in Musical theater specializing in singing, dancing and acting training.
What are you a raving fan of?
I am a raving fan and love any type of art, whether it’s photography, music, painting or architecture. The unique sensation that I feel when I experience art in any form is something I would not trade for anything.
When do you feel most like yourself?
I feel most like me when I am creating something from nothing; from a role on stage to the remodel of a bathroom. I find that forging my own journey and seeing the final finished product gives me a sense of pride and satisfaction having been a part of the journey.
What would you do in an alternate life?
In an alternate life, I would have been a tourist guide in Europe.
What’s the best part of your story for far?
Well, I am in my mid twenties, with a blurry path but a steady dream. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and that I could not be in a better place than living in Denver, doing life with close friends and working with D Enterprise. Here I can not only hone and improve my craft but can also be an active part in building amazing spaces where people can create their own memories and dreams.
What do you love most about working at D Enterprise?
I am passionate about using my talents to give back and serve others. I have been entrusted with so much and if I don’t give back to my community then all my talents are just meaningless and hollow.
After moving to the states while in high school, Gerardo started framing houses as a summer job. Texas summer’s can be pretty brutal; however, he was fascinated by the architecture and construction methods for building the American Home, especially since he came from a country where everything is built out of concrete. After enrolling in college and having had 3 solid years’ experience framing, Gerardo quickly found myself spending quite a bit of time working in the wood shop on campus. He learned how to build sets for our theater department and realized there were many similarities to framing. He soon became a lead carpenter and was put in charge of teaching other students how to use tools and manage themselves in the shop. After he graduated college I took a year off, went back home and worked as a finisher carpenter for Cleancut LLC in Longview, Texas where thanks to his background in framing and set design, he was hired as a finish carpenter. Gerardo worked there for a year until I found D Enterprise thanks to a very old friend.
Middle child of two born and raised in Matamoros, Tamaulipas Mexico until the age of 17. After his family moved to the states he became really excited about the idea that he was going to be able to pursue his acting degree. After learning English and graduating from Gilmer High school in Texas, Gerardo enrolled in a small community college in the town next door in which not only was he able to be part of many plays and musicals but at the same time he would work in the scene shop where my carpentry skills developed to the point that he was able to design and build several sets for a small musical theatre company in town, being one of the coolest and most rewarding things he has ever been part of.
