What is something no one would believe is true about you?
That I have a meteorology degree and that I also enjoy classical and choral music.
What organization or company Inspires you?
Creation Moments – a non-profit organization that seeks to enlighten the world to the wonder and the truth of God’s marvelous creation through radio programming.
What are you a raving fan of?
Fostering a fascination and wonder in others, especially kids, for the world around us through experiential learning.
What are you doing when you feel most like you?
Being in nature, whether just walking through the woods, backpacking, or canoeing through a swamp. I enjoy being anywhere I can observe the beauty and wonder of all that God has made and sharing it with others.
In an alternate life, what would you want to give a try?
I think it would be fascinating to live in the early years of America.
What are you passionate about related to the work you do and serving others?
I am passionate about seeing a project proceed from an idea through completion. I love the creative process of building and especially enjoy fine, detailed woodworking. I enjoy problem solving and coming up with creative solutions for those problems. I also strive to not just work, but to build a relationship with those customers for whom I work.
What is the best part of your story so far?
Getting a second chance at love by marrying my beautiful wife Lindsay (whom I met when she hired me to renovate her home). Also, raising my lovely daughter Chloe and being welcomed into a new family including two wonderful step sons and a daughter-in-law. Stepping into this new role has been an adventure and a gift. I am truly thankful that God gives people second chances.
Mike’s experience in the construction industry started at a young age. His father was a carpenter and his uncle was a roofer, so Mike was always around and influenced by building and construction work. As a teenager, he worked with his uncle and continued through his college years.
After receiving a degree in meteorology from the University of North Carolina at Asheville, and a brief stent as a meteorologist in Texas, Mike returned to construction and worked for a disaster restoration and renovation company in Raleigh, NC.
Mike moved to Colorado in 2000 and worked as a home inspector for several years. In 2008, he started 5280 Renovation and Repair specializing in home repairs and small remodeling projects. Mike operated 5280 until joining the D Enterprise team in April of 2020.
Mike grew up in rural North Carolina on 150 acres roaming the woods, hunting and fishing with his brothers and cousin. He is the youngest of 4 siblings, two brothers and a sister. Mike and his family are close knit and still love getting together around food, fellowship and fun.
Growing up in “the woods” nurtured his love for being outside and a fascination of the natural world. Mike attended college in the mountains of NC where he was able to continue pursuing hi love of science and the outdoors. Though he received a degree in meteorology, his path always seemed to lead me back to working with his hands through construction and building.
Mike’s daughter was born in 2000 through his first marriage. He then moved to Colorado that same year. After 14 years as a single dad, he met the love of his life, Lindsay, in 2018 and they were married later that same year. Mike and Lindsay enjoy hiking, backpacking, biking, and kayaking, especially with their children. Mike still has a passion for science, the natural world and the apologetics of Creation.
